Book the park ticket separately
Transport to Naples does not include admission to Pompeii. Since 2 March 2026, the park identifies VivaTicket as its official online seller. Tickets are also sold at the official ticket offices at the entrances, subject to availability; advance purchase is recommended rather than universally mandatory.

A focused visit can connect the Forum, public buildings and a selection of houses that are open that day. Use the park's current map and open-buildings information because conservation work can change access without making the wider park unavailable.
Avoid an overfilled regional itinerary
Adding the Amalfi Coast, Herculaneum or the Vesuvius crater creates several more fixed connections. From Rome, that makes the day vulnerable to a delayed train, a missed park slot or a rushed archaeological visit. If Pompeii is the reason for travelling, give it the day. Stay in Naples or the surrounding area if you want to combine several Campania sites.
Choose an entrance that fits the route
Pompei Villa dei Misteri is the straightforward rail stop for Porta Marina and Piazza Esedra. Pompei Santuario serves Piazza Anfiteatro. The best entrance is therefore the one that fits both your train and the places you want to see; there is no need to cross the modern town just to use a particular gate.
Independent visit or guided day trip?
An independent rail trip gives you control over the trains, ticket product and time inside the park. It also means you are responsible for leaving connection buffers and arriving within your admission slot.
A guided product may bundle transport, admission and interpretation, but inclusions vary. Before paying, verify the named departure station, whether the Pompeii ticket is included, the amount of time actually spent inside the park, the guide language, and the operator's cancellation terms. “Skip the line” does not mean bypassing identification checks, access controls or operational queues.
